“The Silent Evolution” is now open to the public. The artificial reef exhibit, located off the coast of Mexico in Cancun, is part of the world’s largest underwater museum. It features 400 life size underwater sculptures based on real people by artist Jason de Caires Taylor. Snorkeling and scuba diving tours are available with trained professionals but anyone can swim amongst the sculptures for free. Visitors can also see the exhibit from the surface. The exhibit is attracting swarming Gray Angel fish which were scarce in the area prior to the exhibit’s installation. The sculptures are located near existing reefs and encourage new growth, helping to preserve natural corals and develop different species.
